Using Senses at Pennington

FREEWRITING ASSIGNMENT
(Post on your Google Blog)

Describe the place where you are sitting now. Freewrite the details you observe -- and push yourself to observe many details. Describe the people you can see, the architecture and the furnishings. Use your senses. After you've written down what you see, close your eyes and focus on sounds and smells. Now open your eyes and pull the description into an 800-word article. (800 is minimum. You can write more.)

Illustrate the article. Take photos of where you are, who you’re with, what you see. Using a photo-editing software, crop and adjust the photos. Use one large, centered highlight photo, one medium portrait photo and create a landscape photo gallery of all the images .

Pennington lounge is a shared space within Lycoming College's academic center. It is home to Cafe 1812 and is also a popular place for students to study or do homework either alone or with classmates. This post will detail what my senses have noticed while sitting in the absolute center of the room.

Sight:
The lighting is a combination of sunlight filtered through tinted windows and soft artificial lighting from walls and the ceiling. This light illuminates the space's structure and contents.

Explain your philosophy of life, your personal set of beliefs. This is not easy, but we all have beliefs and yet rarely do we think of them with cool objectivity. Write is as a short essay, a journal entry, or make a list of complete sentences.

The philosophy that I choose to live my life by is the result of the experiences I've had previously in my lifetime.

Firstly, I was never baptized or raised going to church regularly. As a result of this, I lack faith in any religion. This is not to say that I will never be convinced of a religion's legitimacy in the future. I may currently have the belief that the world, universe, and existence on a whole is far more complex that we could ever fathom, and because of that I don't think that anyone has all of the answers for how to live life. I also don't have a good reason to believe that anyone has ever had direct contact with god or a god, whether or not they do exist. Like I said though, I may change my mind at some point.

My lack of a faith doesn't mean I lack a code, morality, or ethics. There are things I will always do and things I would never do. The things I will always do are: behaving with good manners; such as holding doors, refraining from releasing gas of any sort in public, getting up from the table to blow my nose, and any other generally accepted, but sometimes ignored courtesies. I will also always do what I have a gut feeling is right to do in any given situation, meaning my on conscience is my moral compass. While I choose to follow most laws out of good taste and self preservation, some that I feel are unneeded or wrong, I will break. The things I will never do are pretty simple: murder, rape, child abuse, purposefully rude things in general. Now I would kill for a very good purpose, but a good purpose is hard to find.

I also just generally try to be a good person, because at least if there isn't a god or heaven, I'll still have a pretty good life and won't have any regrets.

About Me in College...

8/26/2014
Why did you choose Lycoming College and what were your other choices? What is your major and why did you choose it? What do you hope to accomplish with your degree once you graduate?

1. My college choice was down to two local colleges near Williamsport, Pa. This choice was to remain close to my family, because I like being treated to free meals and receiving frequent care packages.

First was Lock Haven University, which my brother was attending at the time, so that school was in the running. It was also a rather cheap college, so that also made it appealing. The campus was the crappier of the two, but that's what you get for that amount of money.

The second college I was considering was Lycoming College, located in the center of Williamsport. This school had a better reputation than Lock Haven, and was closer to my house. The only problem with choosing Lycoming was that it costs a lot.

Deciding between these became harder when I was accepted into both of them...

The decision became a lot easier when I found that I was being offered about a 90% scholarship from Lycoming, making it way cheaper than Lock Haven.

So basically I made my choice to come to Lycoming because it is cheap for me and close to home.

2. My major is Corporate Communications(Ccom), which does admittedly sound rather formal and lame. I would have chosen Laser Space Defense if it was available. I chose Ccom because it is a major that offers a diverse field of careers that I will eventually be able to choose from. I didn't want to make a mistake like choosing to be an English major, then finding I actually hate the field and then having no way to make money besides manual labor, which is my nemesis. With a degree in Ccom I have the ability to do anything from Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Consulting, or other things I've failed to remember. These careers all have the positive element of not having to ever break a sweat.

I have found that this major is amazingly simple for me. This acknowledgement has lead me to believe that I have no limits to the level of success I can attain. I have already started my own consulting firm, BartonBusinessBetterment@gmail.com , a service that is and will be offering tips to existing companies on things they're doing wrong, then soliciting money to tell them how to fix those problems.

Once I've graduated, that golden sheet of fancy paper will allow me to be more respected in whatever field I choose, which will in turn allow me to make more money.

That, you will come to find by reading future posts on this blog, is the driving force in my life. I have come to find that love is a lie and faith is a weakness. The only positive of enduring life is to achieve personal satisfaction, my currency of choice is cold hard cash.

Weird? Ill-informed? Misguided? I don't give a damn.

Have a nice day.
